Ran around Oakland yesterday running some errands and found a bunch of awesome murals. Almost all of them right off San Pablo Blvd. This one under 980 of Oakland residents is one of my favorite Oakland murals. It’s pretty much been weathered pretty good and now it’s been tagged over a number of times. And [...]

I didn’t get any decent pictures of the eclipse this week but I’m pretty happy with this moon rise picture I got last night.

We drove past the old Parkway Theater on our way home from David & Karena’s going away party. Thought it was kinda fitting there was an Oakland tribute piece there the night before they drove away to Portland.

Walked around Polk Street after DJ Shadow’s amazing Shadowshere show at the Regency Ballroom and saw some pretty great graffiti up in alleyways.

The traffic in my neighborhood is getting crazy lately. Took me forever to get home.

There’s a pretty great view of San Franciso from the bridge near my house. And it was absolutely breath taking on my way home the other night. I just had to pull over and get a shot of this. God I love this city.

When an organization sends over 15 million emails a year, you need to make sure your staff are emailing the right people the right information at the right time. Otherwise you face the dangers of angry customers, getting marked as spam or worse blacklisted. And you don’t have a way of analyzing your data??? TechAmerica [...]

After six years in Pittsburgh, I have had more than enough rain for the rest of my life. I now live in lovely California. The sunny side of the bay to be precise. But it still does rain here occasionally. Like the last 2 weeks. Lots and lots and lots of rain. We needed the [...]

Celebrated Jackie’s birthday in Delores Park on a beautiful Saturday afternoon with my beautiful friends and their beautiful babies.

It’s been raining off and on for the last few days. Mostly on. But there was a break in the weather a few days ago when I just happened to be at Chad & Megu’s place up near Twin Peaks. This is the last of five 30 second exposure shots I took. The wind kept [...]

All I need is some good music and I’m set. This self portrait was for an art class so long ago that my hair was long.

This was a lot of fun to paint. But a pain to transport & hang.

My first solo show. It was rad. [Event photos by Al Bar. Pre-show photos by Puja. Thx to Zert for helping transport & setup.]

The Jealous Sound opened for Sunny Day Real Estate’s reunion tour at the Fillmore. I don’t remember a thing about them now. I was too excited to see Sunny Day to really pay attention. But this picture of their singer/guitarist came out pretty good. Oh and I know you’re jealous of me seeing S.D.R.E. They [...]

Riley rockin’ rock a bye babyin’ her V.I.P. onesie.

Meetings in my old boss’s office were always pretty tolerable regardless of how tedious the meeting was. How could you not stay awake when there’s boxes of action figures all around?

I need to make some stickers again. It’s the initial drawing and cutting out of the stencils that’s the hard part. And coming up with an idea of course. But once you have that done, there’s lots of fun to be had with paint & colors.

You know your girl is a keeper when she takes you on a date to the MUNI graveyard to look at graffiti.
Browsers are pretty sophisticated nowadays. They can open pretty much any type of file within the browser itself. But we don’t always want that to happen. Sometimes you want the file to automatically download when the user clicks a link. To do this, all we need to do is use <cfheader> to update a file’s mime [...]
While there’s some great things about ColdFusion, there’s also a lot of annoying things. One issue that used to drive my team nuts was passing form variables from one page to another. Should be easy enough but ColdFusion uses 2 separate objects to hold data depending on how the parameters are passed. If you pass [...]
WordPress always amazes me. Shortcodes have been in use since v2.5 but now you can create and register your own!
SalesForce’s query language SOQL is pretty close to standard SQL but there’s some differences that can drive you batty. One such thing that caused me to pull some hair out recently is escaping special characters like single quotes. To escape single quotes in your text simply replace them with “\’” SalesForce SOQL Query: SELECT id [...]

Thee Oh Sees’ bassist tuning up just before another explosive song. They are one of the tightest and most energetic bands I have ever seen. Def check em out if you get a chance. So fun.

One of the trees in my neighborhood.

Streets & Avenues high above Oakland from The Internet’s rooftop.

Yay! Valentine’s day is almost here. Ya… I’m not a fan either. I hated it when I was single and even now when I’m happily married and things are good, I still think it’s a stupid ‘holiday’. And lucky for me, the Mrs feels the same way. (You noticed I said happily married right?) So [...]

I saw this picture of Summer & Seth kissing and couldn’t get over it. Their body language was lovely and I especially loved their feet. I wasn’t really sure what to do with the background and then Boy Meets Girl’s “Waiting for a Star to Fall” came on the radio. And well, the lyrics fit [...]

It’s been rainy lately and I wasn’t feeling too well so I wasn’t going out anywhere this weekend. Instead, I spent a lot of time listening to music and playing with water colors. One of the artists I listened to a lot this weekend (and have been into a lot lately in general actually) is [...]

A custom one off Heart Attack shirt I made for a friend a while back. Hand drew the bomber. Then cut out the hearts from felt and stitched them on to the shirt. I loved this shirt. But I gave it away almost as soon as it was done cause Yonaton gave my wife an [...]

Alameda CA to Bend Oregon: 9hrs each way. 998.6 miles round trip. 1.5 tanks of gas. ~20 gallons. My hybrid is crazy awesome. So is Mt. Shasta.

I hated the “Hill Section” of Scranton when I was a kid. It took forever for me to walk to my friends’ houses. But San Francisco’s hills never bothered me much though. I guess it all depends on how you look at things.

I came upon this repair shop while looking for some graffitied trucks in East Oakland. The colors and destroyed truck really caught my eye.

The skate park under 580 in West Oakland seems to still be going strong.

I’m a very lucky man. Not only does my wife love to cook, but she’s an amazing cook. So when she wanted to start her own food blog, I was more than excited to help her out. She wanted something that was easy to maintain but also had a simple, clean design. I used WordPress [...]

PunkAssBitch.com was the first domain I ever bought way back in 1996. And it’s gone through many different incarnations over the years. From my first blog to portfolio to a community site and now finally, it’s my concert video gallery. I go to a lot of shows and I always have a camera with me [...]

Mendo Costa is a stunning rental property nestled in California’s Mendicino forest. We had such an amazing time staying there for our anniversary, that I offered to update their logo & website to show off their beautiful home and surroundings. The site itself is one giant page that scrolls vertically to show different sections. The [...]

I love Twitter. So simple and so easy to use that it’s kind of mind boggling how much you can do with 140 characters. Even more crazier is the number of applications that you can use with Twitter. So when Doug approached me with the idea of creating a site to track and categorize all [...]

Saw some pretty amazing graffiti this past weekend. More than a lil blown away at the abundance & diversity of the street art culture in West Oakland. Check out the full gallery at punkAssBitch.com
DV liked his Burn painting so much that he ended up getting the design made into a lamp by ‘some metal dude in Sacramento’. Not that kinda metal but it still came out pretty bad ass. Really dig how the back lighting makes it look like the moon is really behind the wolf.

This is the original sketch for Songs to Sing When I’m Lonely. I really wish the face came out as well in the final piece. It’s so simple and expressive in this line drawing.

Found the original drawing for the Sad Prince print. I drew it a long ass time ago. On the beach in Santa Barbara waiting for a Radiohead show. That was a pretty amazing weekend. Regardless of how I may have felt inside.
I’v been pulling a lot data from different websites lately. That data often has HTML in it that I don’t necessarily always want. This is a quick & easy way to strip all HTML from a var in ColdFusion. Example ColdFusion Code: <cfset textWithoutHTML = ReReplace(textWithHTML, ‘<[^>]*>’,”,’all’)>
Check this. This is the easiest way to have one master checkbox that will check/uncheck other checkboxes on a form. HTML with a “Master” checkbox and 3 dependent checkboxes. <input type=”checkbox” id=”masterCheckBox” > Check/Uncheck All <input type=”checkbox” > check 1 <input type=”checkbox” > check 2 <input type=”checkbox” > check 3 jQuery Code: When the masterCheckBox [...]

Driving through the American southwest was one of the most wonderful things I’ve ever done. So many stars at night. So many beautiful colors during the day. It was like being on another planet.

It runs like a river runs to the sea It runs like a river to the sea I don’t believe in painted roses Or bleeding hearts While bullets rape the night of the merciful I’ll see you again When the stars fall from the sky And the moon has turned red Over One Tree Hill [...]

Sometimes I think an all out full scale alien invasion would be better than sitting through yet another meeting.

I am a sticker & flyer fiend. I grab all I see. I come home with pocketfuls of them all the time. Combine that with my natural pack rat tendencies and we have a disaster waiting to happen. Until I found something to do with them all. Collage! This is one of my most favorite [...]

I was part of Space Gallery’s stencils & sticker show in San Francisco a few years ago. It was a pretty cool show. Artists from all over the city were invited to stencil all around the top floor. I met a lot of cool artists and saw some really cool & different stencil styles. Unfortunately [...]

I’ll wait up in the dark For you to speak to me I’ll open up…Release me… Release me ~ Pearl Jam ‘Release’

This painting of Public Enemy was going to be used for a cover of a Public Enemy biography. My painting?!? One of my most favorite bands ever saw & liked my painting?!?!?!? And they want to use it for their biography cover!?!?! I was beyond ecstatic! That was until Terminator X killed it because he [...]

It’s really kinda sad how long it took me to get into jazz. It was never my thing but I gained a whole new appreciation for it after watching the Ken Burn’s Jazz documentary.

Don’t hate the player. Hate the game.

Hotel des Arts is quite possibly my fav gallery in SF. Hallways and rooms upon rooms of amazing art. So I was more than honored to have some of my work displayed at their Emerging Artists 2009 show. (photos by Tomoko Beytien)

Part of our old fence broke. Wasn’t about to let that wood go to waste.

Cinderella wore glass slippers when she found her prince. Screw that silliness. These are the shoes I wore when I married my princess. TEAM doop forever!

My sketchbooks are so not in order. Things get drawn & written when inspiration strikes. Sometimes two very different experiences end up on the same page. “Out of side, out of mind.” vs. “Absence makes the heart grow fonder.”

Stickers for Punk Ass Bitch back in my emo days. Ok. No, I was never emo. That’s just sad.

Resistance is never futile.

“This is what it sounds like, When doves cry.” DV found this busted up guitar. I prettied it up for him with some doves.

Red is my favorite color.

Playing around with stencils & paint trying to create some depth in the painting.

Working at Reggae on the River every summer was a such a pain in the ass. I mean I had to work at a JoJo’s booth selling merch to really cool people all afternoon. She even let me sell my gear at her booth. And I had to do this all while watching some of [...]

I wanted to do something fun with the border of this painting. So tired to singe the edges with a lighter. It almost went up in flames.

Put a bird on it!

I really dug this hoodie I made a while back. I hand stitched a birdie on some wires on the front. The wires wrapped all the way around the back and up the hood with some telephone poles. Ya, it was pretty sweet (Don’t mind me patting myself on the back. Carry on). I wasn’t [...]

Please God, make me a bird. So I can fly, fly away. Fly so very far away.

Birds have the best view of everything.

I absolutely loved the biker scout scene in Return of the Jedi. But can you imagine how cool it woulda been with a skate board?

Risin’ up, straight to the top Had the guts, got the glory Went the distance Now I’m not gonna stop Just a man and his will to survive ~ Survivor “Eye of the Tiger”

If you like this painting, you should see the one I did at his mom’s.

Some lil punks broke into our garage a while back. They took a couple things but I was most upset about losing this board. I had finally gotten a Sector 9 long board and customized it. And they just took it. The bastards. Every time I see a kid ride by in my neighborhood, I [...]

“Echo station 3-T-8, we have spotted Imperial Walkers… I repeat, we have spotted Imperial Walkers…”

The Hoth scene in The Empire Strikes Back made a huge impression on me as a child. I was amazed and terrified by the AT-AT’s. I think they may have had more of an impact in me than Vader being Luke’s dad or his hand getting cut off.

They said it would only take a few weeks. They laughed at the idea of these sand dwellers against our superior technology & fire power. And now years later, we are in two wars. Two! Two fucking wars.

Can you believe we are still in two wars? Still. Or did you forget? And the only thing we have to show for it is a lot of dead soldiers & civilians. And a HUGE deficit. But hey… stay calm & keep shopping. Want this painting?

I tore my mini bus stencil one too many times. I couldn’t even get a one last use out of it. So I ended up just pasting the stencil onto the piece. This will be its last stop. Good-bye my mini bus. We had a nice run together.
Making shirts in the back yard. Sometimes it’s so sunny, I need to block the sun with another stencil to see what I’m doing.

The only thing I really miss about the east coast is the fall when all the leaves change color. It’s pretty magical. But then all the leaves fall and you have to clean them up. And it’s dark & stormy for ages. And it’s cold. Soo cold. I
Feedback is Good. Lemmeno What You Think.
